If you are having trouble paying your residential electric, sewer, and water service bills this winter, the NJ Department of Community Affairs has a program to protect you from having these utilities turned off from November 15 through March 15.

All pre-applications submitted online during the open enrollment period from Monday, July 11, 2022, at 9:00 a.m. until Friday, July 22, 2022, at 5:00 p.m.,

The County will continue to receive applications up until the deadline of June 30, 2022 by regular mail, fax, email and drop offs. The air conditioners will be distributed only to individuals meeting the eligibility criteria. Please book an appointment.

Applicants may receive up to $35,000 per household to cover: Mortgage reinstatement assistance, Other eligible housing related costs, including: Escrow shortages, Delinquent property taxes, Municipal or tax liens Up to four future mortgage payments, inclusive of principal, interest, taxes and homeowner’s insurance

Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis until all funds are expended. To determine eligibility, Mercer County households are required to document that someone within the household qualified for unemployment benefits, experienced a reduction in income, suffered major costs directly or indirectly due to COVID-19 that impacted the household, and can demonstrate a risk of homelessness or housing instability. A household’s income must be at or below 80 percent Area Median Income (AMI) with priority given to households at or below 30 percent AMI. The County of Mercer will accept applications for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) until Wednesday, June 30, 2021. The County will continue accepting applications for the Universal Service Fund (USF) Program throughout the year. Residents who pay their own heating costs, and meet the income guidelines, may be eligible to receive financial assistance with their winter heating bill. Residents with medical conditions may also be eligible to receive cooling assistance.
