On Friday January 17, 2025 Mount Carmel Guild joined the City of Trenton’s Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service, reinforcing a commitment to compassionate service and community empowerment.
The annual MLK Day of Service by the City’s Department of Recreation, Natural Resources and Culture is designed as a reminder that acts of kindness and service can transform lives. Speaking at a special City Hall reception on the day, Daren Miller, Assistant Executive Director of Mount Carmel Guild, shared heartfelt words on the Guild’s mission and the lasting impact of service.
“Dr. King taught us that ‘everybody can be great because everybody can serve.’ At Mount Carmel Guild, we don’t just serve meals or provide assistance - we restore dignity, uplift lives, and build a stronger, more compassionate community,” Miller told attendees.
Following the event, the Guild welcomed four participating volunteers to its food pantry, who assisted with stocking shelves, organizing supplies, and welcoming care receivers. And, following the hands-on experience, Miller led them on a tour of the Guild, sharing insights into its rich history, vital services, and the transformative impact it has on the lives of those in need.
The Guild’s participation in the 2025 MLK Day of Service formed part of its ongoing Community Mission Tour, launched last year as a strategic initiative to introduce the Guild’s work to potential donor organizations, volunteers, and partners throughout Trenton and Mercer County.
The initiative is aimed at fostering new collaborations and helps the Guild identify and address the greatest community needs, ensuring its programs remain relevant and impactful. “We are not just here to help; we are here to listen, to learn, and to grow alongside the communities we serve,” Miller emphasized.
Mount Carmel Guild invites Mission Members to reach out and explore how they may be part of this movement. Whether through site visits, collaborative programs or community dialogue, the Guild remains committed to expanding its reach and deepening its impact across Trenton.
