In September, Mount Carmel Guild invited nursing students from Chamberlain University and a representative from the New Jersey Department of Health to oversee health screenings and provide outreach to our care-receivers, part of the Guild’s ongoing commitment to providing holistic care for the community. The exercise marked the latest in ongoing efforts by the Guild to encourage healthy lifestyles.
Regular health screenings not only place individuals in a better position to make wiser health choices, they help avert incidences of non-communicable diseases, particularly among at-risk populations.
With many individuals facing limited access to healthcare, the pre-diabetic assessments administered by Chamberlain University, along with the cancer and seasonal vaccines information by NJ Health, provide an accessible way for care-receivers to identify risk factors for various health conditions.
Armed with such information, individuals can make informed decisions about their diets and overall health, helping them manage and prevent long-term complications such as diabetes and kidney disease.
"Our partnership with Chamberlain University and NJ Health allows us to go beyond addressing basic needs like food and shelter," said Mary Inkrot, Executive Director of Mount Carmel Guild. Through these educational activities, we’re empowering people with knowledge and helping them take proactive steps toward better health."
NJ Health has committed to providing ongoing information health sessions in English and Spanish for care-receivers, supporting the Guild’s mission of addressing the needs of the whole person.
Representatives from Chamberlain University and NJ Health bring not only relevant expertise, but compassion in connecting with our care-receivers.
